Job Description

School Boarding Nurse reports to Head of Boarding. Works closely with Boarding Manager to ensure seamless and continuous care. Works with other members, academic staff, school office staff and all other department as necessary in the care of students within the Boarding house.

Working hours: Monday – Saturday (rotate day/night work shift)***

1. Liaising with parents regarding the administering of medications to students taken ill whilst under the school’s care.
2. Dispense medicines to students, according to their needs and medical requirement.
3. Maintains stock of medicines and first aid equipment and regular stock checks.
4. Inputs and maintains medical records of students and provides reports on students’ illness and/or accident
5. Keep nursing records to a high standard ensuring the accurate and rapid retrieval of information.
6. Record dispensing of drugs following drug protocols.
7. Provide first aid and emergency care and treatment as necessary. This includes maintaining stock of all school first aid kits.
8. Provide a confidential counselling and health advice service as appropriate.
9. Operate procedures for control of infectious diseases.
10. Follow procedures for the safe disposal of clinical waste.
11. Be aware of recommended safe storage, usage and disposal of medical supplies and drugs. Maintain treatment room stock, hygiene and tidiness.
12. Develop and maintain good links and lines of communication with key staff whose primary responsibility is the duty of care of all the pupils in the Boarding house
13. Help prepare properly approved letters on behalf of the school and coordinates with local hospitals to facilitate the admission of emergency cases from the school.


- Hold bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing.
- License/Certificate in Nursing.
- Professional nursing qualification – a registered nurse, practice Nurse or School Nurse experience would be an advantage.
- Knowledge and experience of providing first aid and the care of children with chronic illnesses.
- Clear, concise, timely and appropriate oral and written communication.
- Able to speak conversational English and/or Chinese.
- Listens well and understands other’s needs and perspectives.
- Meets objectives on own initiative; committed to self-development;
- Willing to attend appropriate on-going training/updating.
- Flexible, co-operative, helpful.
- Have self-awareness, collaborates well with ability to work alone and as part of a team.
- Organized, systematic; efficient; meets agreed priorities.
- Responsive, investigative; adaptable; prepared.
- Have good basic computer literacy (Word and Excel) and the knowledge of EMIS for patient records would be an advantage.
- Able to undertake all the physical requirements of the post and use equipment, according to health and safety guidelines.
- Able to rotate day / night work shift.
